Default Tormented Weapons

We all know about these fancy looking overrated items. They cost alot, and make you feel rich. Best of all they're purple

"These weapons were recovered from the Margonites, but I am afraid their influences began warping the weapons into unnatural forms and corrupting the very steel from which they were forged. I desire to see them turned against those that sought to use them, but these weapons will be dangerous in the hands of those unable to control the power within. I cannot hand them over to just any Lightbringer. If you bring me an Armbrace of Truth from within these realms, I will know you have found one of my fallen brethren and earned their trust through your deeds."

~Deacon of Whispers

I don't see any power besides the ability to look good/rich, but that doesn't help my Margonite slaying in any way possible.

So, make some ridiculous quest to gain exclusive mods for Tormented weapons only.

Some of my ideas were:

To have cooler skins than the standard tormented weapons (xD)

-1 HP regen to increase the maximum damage range (you're stronger but
you're corrupted thus slowly dying)

+1 HP regen mod, -30HP

50% more damage (could scale it down...) against Margonites

So in the end

Pros:
Cooler weapon skins
Actually having a reason to get Tormented weapons
Easier PvE
Not too over-powered buffs (because of the negative effects)
New "fun" quest to do

Cons:
Scythes would do even more damage than normal
Screws up things in PvP
Inflates the prices of Tormented weapons (I would assume)

What do you guys think?

Anyway, This idea seems too complicated and not very useful. The mods wouldn't be better than regular mods and too situational. +dmg vs margonites isn't needed anyway, especially with the bonus you already get from Lightbringer.

But wait the whole point of tormented weapons are to make u look rich. Pfft Margonite slaying, you mean buying a campaign run right?

But i guess for one of your ideas to make it have cooler skins...maybe to make them dye able?

That works.

But still, refering to what the Deacon says, I still don't see the great ultimate power in the tormented weapons. :P

He never said they where powerful, he said that they where corrupting, and thus you need to prove you can overcome it by conquering the DoA.

They're just weapons that were twisted do to the margonites touch, it doesnt mean that they have super powers.

They are fine as is, i'd rather see the anet team worry about stuff that actually matters.

How about they get a second inscription slot, but the second inscription has to be a special tormented inscription. Some ideas:

Damage +20% (while health is below 0%)

Damage +15% (damage -15% while attacking)

Damage +20% (vs. Dead foes)

Damage +20% (vs. Allies)

Energy +5 (while Dead)

Halves casting time of spells (Chance: 0%)

Armor +10 (vs. Armor-Ignoring damage)

No. We don't need too make Guild Wars a game where the richer you are, the more effective you're going to be. Gear hasn't made a difference since release, and it really doesn't need to be changed 4 years into the game.

I second that.

Note the extra damage though

...the power within...

I think that means it has some sort of power

Indeed I have, but the roleplaying would make much more sense if the weapons do what they're said to (besides look pretty)

Not everyone buys their tormented items though. This is just an idea, I'll love to see any NEW (not grinding old missions) content.

Seconded. If people have issues /w what the Deacon says, then by all means petition for Anet to change his dialogue.

It's not worth damaging one of the core principles of GW over this. (GW2 will do plenty of that.)

I'd be pleased with anet changing all the skins except for the shield.

And they could make tormented weapons pve only i guess if they made them stronger.

But it's just too much effort for too little payback.

I only care if it makes tormented weapons accessible to me in regular gameplay (ie some mission I can do with my H/H team, instead of the excessive pugging required in DoA). I'm an "everyman" gamer in GW - I don't get the expensive, rare skins, those require obsessive amount of farming or DoA or power trading. I get what's available to people like me, who play the game for fun.

If so, sure, /signed, neat idea. Otherwise, doesn't matter to me.

This is stupid, if you arent rich enough to get 45 ectos for an armbrace, go farm them instead of saying shit here. The whole "These weapons were recovered from the Margonites, but I am afraid their influences began warping the weapons into unnatural forms and corrupting the very steel from which they were forged. I desire to see them turned against those that sought to use them, but these weapons will be dangerous in the hands of those unable to control the power within. ~Deacon of Whispers

merely means that once you have killed Malayx, the king/leader of the Margonites after Abaddon had fallen, you gained experience and strength, so that now you are strong enough to wield Margonite Weapons(Torment Weapons). The logic being that once you killed the best and strongest of all the Margonites, you have obtained the strength to wield an ordinary Margonite Weapon(Torment Weapons). To add a Margonite-Slaying boost for these with Torment Weapons is simply pointless, there is just no point in adding one, DoA is fine the way it is.

Correction: DoA is dead and is horribly broken in HM.
That said, Torment Wes aren't. But I wish there were better reasons to kill Mallyx. All of his greens but the max-bananna scythe suck.
And I love DoA, so I really wish for better reasons to group.
